Riding
Whether you ve been riding your whole life or have always wanted to you can find a place in our program. The Chatham Hall campus is home to more than 50 horses, three teaching arenas, a permanent Hunter Trials course, and plenty of trails. We teach hunt seat the Modern Forward Riding System with an emphasis on horse and rider communication. We also focus on stable management, ensuring that students learn to be true horsewomen, not just riders.
Our more advanced students are encouraged to compete both locally and nationally, and in the past we ve taken home more than our fair share of ribbons, trophies, and titles. Students also have the option of taking Saddle Seat lessons (at nearby Longacre Farm), and even riding to hounds, with the Bedford Hunt. Our riding program also maintains strong ties with the academic curriculum, through our innovative veterinary science courses.
Chatham Hall has a Varsity and a Junior Varsity Riding Team; both are based on rider commitment and don t require riders to try out before becoming members. Students in the riding program have a variety of competitive and learning opportunities: showing, riding to hounds, and participating in Hunter Paces and Hunter Trials. Riding instructors include
Cricket Stone,, Kate Haisch, and Alyson Kent.
